Text Quotes
One of my favorite artists is Tom Waits, whom most people think of as a wonderful singer-songwriter and a great poet. I certainly think of him that way, but I also know him as a terrific actor. You know, that persona that he puts on when he’s doing his music comes from being an actor, figuring out a persona.  (Waits Quotes) I can’t write story-songs, like I couldn’t write a Bob Dylan or Tom Waits song. I can only write whatever weird phrases come into my head, and hope that they’re good.  (Waits Quotes) I like men who are very cool but who are also so brilliant that they are almost insane. Sean Penn, Gary Oldman, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits - men who would be flipping burgers if they hadn’t found an outlet for their brilliant mind-sets.  (Waits Quotes) If Bruce Springsteen, Harlan Howard, or Tom Waits can tell a character’s whole story in four minutes, maybe you don’t need as many words as you think to make an impact.  (Waits Quotes) Small and brave she stands alone summer memories echo through her willowy limbsand ripple like laughter along flanks now braced against an icy wind that sweeps down from the mountain and races across the pasture to whereshe tosses her head and waits for spring grass, the promise of a child’s hand on her withers, and dusty fingers woven through her mane  (Waits Quotes) One of my favorite things about Tom Waits is not only his songs, but when he does do live shows, it’s the theatrics involved. It’s like Kabuki theater, really old-fashioned theatrics. Like, standing on top of a piece of plywood lying on some cinderblocks and clapping his hands, banging on a bucket.  (Waits Quotes) I got to watch my heroes meet him and saw how they reacted, whether it was Joe Strummer or Tom Waits. It was peculiar. I’m so stoked to meet Tom Waits, and he’s so nervous to meet my dad. It’s a head spin.  (Waits Quotes) In my bachelor days, I had a small upright piano in my kitchen. It cost ú10 from eBay plus ú70 delivery. It was because I’d seen an old photo of Tom Waits - with dirty dishes, empty bottles, a hot plate, a coffee machine and a piano strewn with lyric sheets - and fallen in love with it.  (Waits Quotes) In the power and splendor of the universe, inspiration waits for the millions to come. Man has only to strive for it. Poems greater than the Iliad, plays greater than Macbeth, stories more engaging than Don Quixote await their seeker and finder.  (Waits Quotes) It is an empty room, that afterwards, a soledad, and it sits there at the center of a person’s life and waits to be filled.  (Waits Quotes) Listening stops with the ears, the mind stops with recognition, but spirit is empty and waits on all things.  (Waits Quotes) In our time the search for extraterrestrial life will eventually change our laws, our religions, our philosophies, our arts, our recreations, as well as our sciences. Space, the mirror, waits for life to come look for itself there.  (Waits Quotes) The home is where part of the family waits until the others are through with the car  (Waits Quotes) This is the woman’s century, the first chance for the mother of the world to rise to her full place . . . and the world waits while she powders her nose.  (Waits Quotes) Most vagabonds I knowed don’t ever want to find the culprit that remains the object of their long relentless quest. The obsession’s in the chasing and not the apprehending, the pursuit you see and never the arrest - Tom Waits Foreign Affairs  (Waits Quotes) The clock never stops, never stops, never waits. We’re growing old. It’s getting late.  (Waits Quotes) Time is a watchful adversary, who waits enduringly for that merciless hour, hurrying to work the hands of separation.  (Waits Quotes) Ah, man, if I could ever hook up with Tom Waits, I’d be the happiest camper in Yellowstone, alright? That’s the one guy.  (Waits Quotes)
